Moose, caribou, and black and brown bears can be seen in the park. Common small game and furbearers include beaver, muskrat, otter, fox, wolverine, mink, and porcupine. Ground squirrels and marmots are abundant.
Many birds nest in the area including bald eagles, golden eagles, a variety of waterfowl, gulls, tundra swans, various loons, arctic tern, sandhill cranes, spotted and least sandpipers, semi-palmated plover, willow ptarmigan, and spruce grouse. Numerous other migratory birds pass through.

The nation's largest state park with 1.5 million acres, it provides the ecosystem which supports all five species of Pacific salmon: king, sockeye (red), silver, pink, and chum. It's also home to other freshwater sport fish such as Rainbow trout, grayling, lake trout, arctic char, dolly varden, and northern pike.
