The park consists of a chain of large lakes that are interconnected by rivers. The lakes and rivers are teaming with fish. Fly fishing season breakdown:
Our season starts off in late-June. June action is highlighted by the out migration of Salmon Smolt. Smolt are two year old Salmon that are migrating to the sea. Big hungry Arctic Char literally line up at the outlets of the rivers and lakes waiting for the Smolt to arrive. The fishing can be very fast and furious. Large hungry Arctic Char chasing schools of Salmon Smolt is a sight to see. This is some wild action that lasts into the first part of July.

Late June also sees the start of the Salmon run. The Sockeye Salmon start arriving by late June by the hundreds of thousands and can be caught through the rest of the season into September. Sockeye are a terrific game fish that run from 8 to 14 pounds and are very strong. Last summer there where over 1.5 million Sockeye in our lake system. In addition to great Salmon fishing and exceptional dry fly fishing for big Rainbow Trout, side trips for Grayling, Char and Pike are also part of the action throughout the summer.
July sees the start of some of the best dry fly action in the state of Alaska. This exceptional dry fly action starts the last week of June and continues through the entire month of July and through the first couple of weeks of August. One of our specialties is catching Big Bows on dry flies. This is truly great dry fly action. Watching a large Rainbow as long as your arm rise to your dry fly is something all fly fishers should experience. This is some of the best dry fly fishing to large Rainbows anywhere.
By mid August the Salmon have started spawning by the tens of thousands. The Rainbows, Char and Grayling are gorging on Salmon eggs. FAT Rainbows and BIG hungry Char are caught on egg patterns and Salmon beads from mid August through September. Egg patterns and flesh flies are the name of the game in late August and September. The Rainbows, Char and Grayling are at their largest and FATTEST of the season by this time of year. The largest fish of the season will be caught from mid-August through September. This is some truly great fly fishing.
