Fishing in Alaska

We want to thank everyone that joined us this year for making this the best season yet. We all had a great time, caught a lot of fish, and made new friends.

The BIG news for the 2001 season was the addition of a 30 foot diameter Yurt and four Weatherports to our camp. The Yurt serves as our kitchen / dining area / gathering place. This is a super addition to our wilderness camp. With windows virtually all around we are able to get in out of the weather yet still retain that outdoors flavor.Exterior of Yurt

We also have replaced the tents for roomy 10'X8' Weatherports. Each Weatherport have wooden floors and accommodate two guests. The feedback from this year's guests was tremendous. Everyone loved the Yurt and Weatherports.

This years Yurt and Weatherport project could not have been accomplished without the incredible help from our great work crew. These are special people and deserve my undying gratitude. Mr. Pat Fix from Hilo, Hawaii was our lead carpenter without who we would have been lost. Paul Desroches of Anchorage was of invaluable help. Paul was with us for two weeks and virtually worked non-stop the entire time. Also on the crew were Jake Taylor, Zack Taylor, Katie Taylor, and Chad Moniz. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to these hard working people. They did one heck of a super job. Thank you one and all.

Making an appearance for a second season this summer was wilderness chef extraordinaire Ben Prescott. Ben's enthusiastic and high-energy love for cooking in the great outdoors makes him the perfect match for our wilderness fish camp. Ben's flair for improvisation and combining flavors, makes his dishes truly mouth watering. We are looking forward to Ben returning again next year. Everyone agreed Ben is an incredible chef.Chef Ben with Salmon Filets
Gini with GraylingThe 2001 fishing season was highlighted by the largest number of Sockeye Salmon we have ever seen in the Agulukpak River. Over 1.5 million Sockeye entered the lake system this year. At times it seemed as though the Salmon were virtually wall-to-wall. When the Salmon started spawning in mid-August fat hungry Rainbow Trout and Arctic Char were caught and released in large numbers. The fishing was fast and furious using Salmon egg patterns and beads. Seeing all those Salmon in the lakes and river was truly a sight to behold.
The 2001 highlights would not be complete without mentioning the HUGE Northern Pike caught and released by Dr. Bob Augar of Carmel, California. Bob's lunker Pike was over 42 inches long and bigger around than his leg. This was a BIG Pike. Congratulations Bob!Bob's Huge Northern Pick

NEW for 2002
Our aim here at Reel Wilderness Adventures is to try and make your Alaska wilderness fishing adventure not only lots of fun but very comfortable. On the drawing board for next summer is the construction of a shower / sauna house. The upgrade of our shower facility along with the addition of a sauna should be a real benefit. We are sure you will think so too.

Thank you again for your support this past season. We look forward to seeing you again next year for even more great fishing and fun.
